“This is an exciting time for not only the United Soccer Coaches, but also for our high school advocacy team,” said Greg Winkler, Boys Chair of the High School Coaches Member Group. “Our group has worked very hard to find a way to recognize our high school coaches that focus their efforts on building relationships and coaching beyond the playing field. We want to congratulate our first class of recipients on their accomplishments and we look forward to sharing more great stories in the future.”

Zeiko Lewis (Berkshire ’13) – MLS with New York Red Bulls

Former Berkshire School standout Zeiko Lewis was selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls. He was the 17th overall pick and the first for the Red Bulls. Lewis is the second player from Berkshire School in the past two years to be drafted into the MLS, joining his former teammate Jack Harrison who know plays for New York City FC.
During his time at Berkshire School, Lewis was a three-sport varsity athlete (soccer, basketball, and track), and in his senior year was elected to be the Head Prefect and won the Male Athlete of the Year and Headmaster’s Prize at graduation. On the soccer field, he led Berkshire to an undefeated season and it’s first New England Class A Championship, and along the way he shattered the all-time scoring record, notching 33 goals in 21 games. He was the runner-up for the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year and earned two separate All-American honors.

Coach Owen Finberg has been named the 2015 NSCAA Coach of the Year for Private/Parochial high school.  He has had tremendous success during his 16 year interscholastic head coaching career, with the last twelve years at South Kent School in Connecticut where he has a 185-36-22 record.  His South Kent teams have won 9 WNEPSSA regular season titles, 7 New England tournament championships, and 2 national prep school titles in that time.  His 2015 team went 19-0, winning the Sportmen’s Cardinal Classic, WNEPSSA regular season title, the NEPSSA championship, and the Top Drawer Soccer national prep school title.

Former Berkshire School soccer captain Jack Harrison (Class of 2015) was chosen as the first overall pick of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.  Currently a student at Wake Forest, Harrison was selected by the Chicago Fire as the draft’s top pick on Jan. 14 before being traded to New York City FC.  Harrison was named Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year in 2015.
